Hey everyone! Shaun here. First off — thank you so much for visiting the site and checking out what Supermarket Music is. It means the world to me.
Supermarket Music is a story I have been writing, influenced by the wonderful media that's entered my life from all over the place. Music inspired by Daisuke Ishiwatari (Guilty Gear), The Pillows, lots of Jersey grind from the men of My Chemical Romance, all the way down to those Casiopea-imposter-syndrome hooks that Mario Kart and other predecessors have been famous for.
It's heavily inspired by the works of Kotaro Uchikoshi and the Zero Escape series (VLR is goat), Danganronpa, House of Fata Morgana — the point is, I really like visual novels and I've read a ton. I can't read books well. ADHD, neurodivergency — not sure really. Comics and graphic novels are easier, but still hard. Visual novel? Oh, sign me up. Skip all readable text / speed read and only get 30% of the meaning the first time because I'm going to have to read it 10 more times anyway? Sign me up. Flow chart? Sign me up, I'm in.
Yeah, those — definitely those. And then the rhythm games that helped shape my creativity and way of storytelling. If not for the masters like Masaya Matsuura (PaRappa the Rapper) and Tsunku ♂ (Rhythm Heaven) just putting it all out there — and the whole time they're doing it, reminding us "Believe in yourself," "I gotta believe," "It'll be ok," "You'll be fine."
Supermarket Music is taking those core elements and figuring out how to serve you the best prix fixe course meal you've ever had, in a way that both satisfies and delights, stings the nostrils.
It will be a fun ride doing so, and I am excited and terrified for all that is to come. All I say is thank you for being here, and we will do our best to tell you a story worth telling.
